Robert Arthur Sonntag, 79 of Carthage, Missouri passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Oak Pointe of Carthage. He was born on October 4, 1946 in Bethany, Oklahoma to Frederick and Velma (Ward) Sonntag. Robert was retired from the U.S. Navy and had worked in management for the Internal Revenue Service. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Carthage.

Robert was united in marriage to Virginia Shields on April 5, 1968. She survives. Other survivors include, one daughter, Stephanie Sonntag and a grandchild, Aurora Sonntag.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Frederick Herman Sonntag Jr., Roger Alan Sonntag, and a son, Ryan Sonntag.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Carthage, MO.
