Lloyd Dale Burgi, 91, died April 5, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Lloyd was born December 30, 1931 in Carthage, Missouri, son of Harold and Leta (Howard) Burgi. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Avilla. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1949 and attended Oklahoma State University.
Lloyd was united in marriage to Norma Ann Follmer on August 5, 1951 in Joplin, Mo.
Lloyd served in the US Air Force for four years. He farmed for several years near Avilla with his father and brother before joining Chapman & Follmer Supply Company in Avilla. Lloyd and Norma purchased the business in 1976, renaming it Avilla Implement. After retiring from the farm equipment business Lloyd built houses and then served as a Jasper County Commissioner for 8 years. He was a member of the Carthage Church of the Nazarene.
Lloyd and Norma enjoyed their retirement years. They traveled extensively in their motor home, including Alaska and a seven month extended trip to South America. They also enjoyed travels to Europe, Russia, and Africa, and a cruise through the Panama Canal.
Lloyd is survived by his three children: Trisha Burgi of Carthage, Jill Hanus (Vern) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and John Burgi (Debbie) of Branson. He is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a special friend, Judy Roper of Carthage. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Norma, and his brother, W.H. (Dub) Burgi.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carthage Nazarene Church, 2000 Grand Ave, Carthage. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Avilla Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Carthage Nazarene Church or ESTHER Homes, PO Box 40296, St Paul, MN 55104.
