Lester Carl Taffner, age 72 of Lamar, MO. passed away at his home, December 2, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Lester was born February 22, 1941 at Lamar, MO. to Carl Asey Taffner and Fern Elizabeth (Walker) Taffner. On December 19, 1960 he married Carolyn (Dockery Taffner. They were married 52 years.
Lester was a retired livestock farmer. In his early days he had a dairy herd, drove a milk truck and loved raising and training horses. He also owned and operated his own gravel truck and worked as a driver for an asphalt paving machine for streets. As a boy he attended the Boston Methodist Church. Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of the home; his mother Fern Taffner, Nevada, MO; one brother, Jerry Taffner and wife Karen, Lamar, MO; one sister, Peggy Jo Gilkey and husband Joe, Nevada, MO; brother-in-law, Dean Dockery and wife Betty, Sugarland, Texas; three nephews, Jerod Lamb and wife Lisha, Sheldon, MO; Joshua Lamb and wife Abbey, Sheldon, MO; and Stephen Dockery and wife Terrill, Wichita, KS; three nieces, Angie Schlichting and husband Matt, Lamar, MO; Susan Norris and husband Peter, Houston, Texas; and LaDeana Dockery, Wichita, KS; eleven great grand nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his father, carl Taffner. In-laws, Calvin and Mae Dockery, and great niece, Hannah RoseMarie Lamb. Lester loved his family and was especially proud of his many grand nieces and nephews, along with his many cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper MO.. Burial will be in Waters Cemetery n.w. of Jasper.
