Gregory Earl Rees, 67 of Carthage, MO passed from this life on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 at his home. Greg was born on July 4th, 1956 in Carthage, Mo , to Earl J Rees and Dorothy B (Compton) Rees. Greg lived his life in the Avilla/Carthage area. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1974. He met the love of his life (Sandra) in November 1975 while he was in the United States Air Force. They were married on July 3, 1976. Greg was a diesel mechanic by trade and retired from Ryder Truck Rental after 25 years. Greg loved hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons, but his favorite hobby was drag racing. Greg spent the majority of his life (51 years) drag racing with his wife Sandra right by his side. Greg loved building and working on his race cars over the years and the time spent with his friends at race tracks across the midwest. Greg was inducted into the Southwest Missouri Drag Racers Hall of Fame in 2016. He was also a member of the Mokan Dragway Hall of Fame. Greg attended Harvest Community Church in Avilla, Mo.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sandra (Deonier) Rees, son Gregory Shane Rees and wife Connie, two Grandsons, Gregory Blaine and Cooper Shane Rees all of Carthage, MO and one sister Linda Copenhaver of Texas. Greg was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Raylen John Rees.
Visitation Services will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Harvest Community Church in Avilla, MO. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Avilla Cemetery, Avilla, MO. Those serving as casket bearers will be Todd Moore, Kyle Powell, Shane Powell, Ed Theiss, Mark Sherrill, and Dave " Taco" Boatright.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CORE Ministries, 9482 East 500 Road, Claremore, OK 74019 in memory of Greg Rees.
